A ridge of high pressure to the southeast maintains settled conditions there, while strong southerly winds and showers affect the northwest of the British Isles today, with gales later over northwest Scotland. A trough will then move northeast across the United Kingdom tomorrow, bringing rain, strong winds and some thundery showers, before another ridge builds from the south on Monday.
